Hello,

I had a situation this week that still bothers me and I just wanted to get some clairification. The team lead at my school is being removed from her position. She is still teaching but she is no longer team lead because her lesson plans and acitivies are lacking rigor. She also has been placed on a growth plan of some type. At her request I have been copying her lesson plans. Though I have been printing them out and writing on mine the additional items that I have been implementing. I have been praised many times on the activities that I do in my classroom. She is not speaking to me currently, and other people have praised me in front of her the activities that I do. Even the new principal there has said I have great activities. I have an educational background where I believe she has a business background so I feel that I know a little more about the educational process and strategies than she does. I just want to make sure that I do not get into trouble because I have been at my current job since October of 06. She has been there for three years. Her Cei's are not very good. I praise her and her activities. I will ask her if I can borrow her ideas, all the time, though usually I will not use them. She will teach approximatly 15 minutes out of 35. I observed her for a while, then switched to someone else to observe. I just didn't think she was very good. I certainly did not tell her that, I just expalined I needed to observe several people for my data. What else can I do to make this situation as best as it can be? As of to date, she has been told that perhaps she needs to get ideas from me. I just want to make this a workable situation. I need all the ideas that I can get. I have been observed by three different people and all have said and reported good things about my teaching. I also implement several acitivies to her lesson plans and I teach the moment the students arrive in the class until the bell rings for the students to be dismissed. My teaching is vey active, and I like it that way.
What if anything should I do at this time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Chandra Lynch

This is a terrible stiuation to have been place in, Chandra. I hope it has been resolved. My situation is that my department chair is so busy living on easy street that I get no support from this person in the class as a completely new teacher whose students had a sub for month before I stepped on the scene.

You can't apologize for doing a good job, especially when it comes to teaching kids, and it shows a teacher's heart that you care so much about a fellow teacher's ego or pride. You may be just as concerned with the quality of your work environment as her feelings though, right? All you can do is your best, as you have been, while being "the one" who makes the effort to take the high road, even if it's you making the effort almost every time. If you feel strongly that your lessons are stronger, stick to that, and continue encouraging your struggling colleague while patiently establishing your new role, hopefully smoothing out the jags of that bitter pill with every challenging act of kindness and professionalism you can muster.
