Program Overview

Alternative certification is designed to be a one year process after becoming highly qualified and obtaining a full-time teaching position.

Facts at a glance:
  • ECAP accepts applications year-round, though the time of year you start will determine your path to certification.
  • You can begin teaching full time earning a teachers salary while you complete your program requirements.
  • Your program fee of $3300 is spread-out over 10 months and deducted from your school paycheck at $330/mo
  • Your training takes place over a full year. If an Intern does not meet all requirements within 1 year and if the Principal and ECAP field advisor recommends for certification, NO additional fees will be charged while you complete the remaining requirements.
Steps to becoming certified:
  1. Apply! - Download Application
  2. Become Highly Qualified.
    • Take your TExES content exam
      or
    • Meet transcript requirements for your certification area.
  3. Take the Online Interview
    OR
    Obtain a full-time teaching position for areas which are not considered "High-Need"
  4. Eligible for Summer Academy and can now be placed on a Probationary Teaching Certificate.
Program Fees
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $50.00
  • Summer Academy Tuition Fee: $450.00(Due by May 31, 2008)
  • Training and Support Fee: $3,300.00(Deducted from teaching salary at a rate of $330.00 per month for 10 months, when candidate is employed by a school district.)
